The Sr. Lubricant Engineer will be responsible for disseminating Valvoline’s value proposition based on the technical advantages of our product as main activity, including but not limited to the provision of very specialized technical-commercial training to the commercial team and sales forces of distributors and key partners. Provides specialized technical direction to B2B key accounts (maintenance programs assessment, product recommendations, operative cost optimization, product claims).  Also responsible for delivering conferences and technical talks in specialty forums such as Shows, Chambers, Associations, or related events.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Accountable for customer-facing situations, elucidating the technical benefits of Valvoline products to secure existing and new business. These interactions will also require negotiation and decision making skills.
  • Problem solving person for customer issues. product claims, and to recommend Valvoline products according to the application and based on OEM guidelines regardless of their relevance directly to Valvoline products; therefore, improving their profitability.
  • Manage the relationship with the lab services provider, administrates and interpret data from used oil sample testing and explaining any technical issues and solutions with customers and sales representatives, regardless of their technical competence.
  • Conduct technical/commercial conferences in specialty forums such as trade shows, chambers, associations or groups of interest where higher level of expertise is required.
  • Lead technical training to customers and Valvoline channel partners, increasing their technical understanding of Valvoline's product lines and the marketable differentiation between these and other products. This role will be the key connection between our sales team and corporate offices in terms of product development and the innovation strategy.
  • Key internal interactions include B2B, B2C, Retail & Express Care Commercial Teams, Lexington Teams, Marketing Team, Quality Group, Product Team.
  • Key external interactions include Direct and indirect customers mainly on highway fleets Channel Partner/Distributor Sales Representatives, Industry Groups including API, ACEA and ASTM, Laboratory

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Relevant Engineering or Science or significant industry experience required. Science and Engineering fields may include Mechanical, Mining, Automotive, Agriculture, or Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Statistics.

Required:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in Engineering or related fields.  Experienced in the lubricants industry, technical/field service, and equipment, on highway fleets.
  • Previous experience with engines and other vehicle systems (filtration, lubrication) 

Preferred:

  • Oil qualification and licensing programs such as ICML, MLT II, MLA II, API, GM dexos, ACEA, Dexron, Mercon, etc.

  • Strong communication/presentation skills
  • Statistical methods and design of experiments
  • Familiarity with Lubricant Formulation Science and Chemistry
  • Knowledge of Engine and Transmission Performance Testing
  • Computer Skills - specifically Excel, Power Point and
  • Collaborative skills to advance projects both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of the engine and transmission lubricant market, including competitors and product landscape
  • Time management proficiency
  • Bilingual English – Spanish
