How You’ll Make An Impact
The Senior Paralegal role supports Valvoline Global’s legal and compliance activities in LATAM (with a primary focus in Mexico) reporting to the LCL with the responsibility of assisting LCL in driving the legal and compliance function, handling various legal, compliance-related matters and promoting Valvoline’s growth in the region.
The office is located in Guadalajara. We prefer local candidates willing to work an in-office work schedule (3 days per week).
This Senior Paralegal position assists in supporting the efficient operations of the LATAM Legal team. Working under the supervision of the LCL, the Senior Paralegal independently handles assignments, may have heavy workloads, and is expected to perform a broad variety of specialized assignments in multiple legal areas with speed and accuracy. The Paralegal has in-depth knowledge, works independently, receives minimal guidance, and may lead projects or steps within a larger project while having accountability for ongoing activities or objectives. The Paralegal may be required to resolve complex problems in conjunction and consultation with the LCL.
In addition, this role will be responsible for the following:

Assist in the obtaining of internal and regulatory approvals, filings, etc. in accordance with applicable laws and company policies. Additionally, supporting LCL and LATAM business in maintaining ongoing compliance on all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, etc including import, and export permits.

Supporting the LATAM Credit team with ongoing credit securities in Mexico, including pagares and mortgages on real property. Duties include collecting required documentation, drafting pagare/mortgage documents, and arranging notary services for signature.

Assisting LCL in completing the ongoing review of importation and labeling requirements in Mexico to update the supply chain team on compliance obligations.

Drafting agreements, amendments, and/or addenda including but not limited to distributors, resellers, non-disclosure agreements, GT&C, etc. Reviewing various business contracts and documents per request by LCL.

Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system, where applicable. Maintaining an up-to-date file and database of administrative and other corporate-related governance documentation, facilitating the preparation of resolutions, and updating corporate documentation following business needs and legal requirements. Maintaining structure and records of intercompany services, licensure, and other agreements, in consultation with the applicable departments.

Leading collaborations with other resource groups based within and outside LATAM (Legal, Brand/Marketing, Tax, Insurance, Accounting, Treasury, Communications, etc). Assisting with providing tools, resource guides, or other materials as may be deemed appropriate, for training or other purposes, that will better serve business partners.

Monitoring changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment and taking action accordingly. Gathering and analyzing legislation, statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, documents, and other data.

Supporting LCL and HR Business Partner with ongoing labor law compliance and problem-solving, including but not limited to employment agreements, benefits, unions, and subcontracting.
What You’ll Need

Bachelor’s degree with a focus in law, paralegal studies, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of work experience with responsibilities that cover the tasks of a paralegal or a legal assistant.

Proven track record of working in positions where accuracy, structured and documented working, and prioritizing have been key.

Ability to apply a broad paraprofessional generalist skillset, have demonstrated excellent problem-solving
-
Ability to conduct complex legal research and drafting legal documents

Solid understanding of applicable law, guidelines, regulations, and legal processes in one or more specialized areas.

Understanding of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Trade Regulations, antitrust & anti competition laws.

Excellent communication, both written and oral, drafting and negotiation skills.
