Job Purpose
The Senior SAP Sales and Distribution Functional Consultant is responsible for the hands-on design, configuration, implementation, and support of SAP SD and Order-to-Billing capabilities. The role will be a key contributor to the company's ongoing SAP S/4HANA implementation and future rollouts while also providing advanced functional support and continuous improvement for existing Order-to-Billing solutions. The role works directly with business partners and technical teams to translate business requirements into practical SAP solutions and carry those solutions through configuration, testing, deployment, and stabilization. The successful candidate must possess strong foundational knowledge across SAP SD and be able to independently analyze issues, configure solutions, and deliver results. This is an execution-focused individual contributor role that may lead functional workstreams or coordinate smaller initiatives.
How You Make an Impact (Job Accountabilities)
SAP SD configuration and solution delivery (35%)
- Configure, enhance, and support SAP SD functionality across the Order-to-Billing process.
- Apply hands-on knowledge of sales document types; item category, schedule line, partner, plant, shipping point, route, storage location, and output determination; pricing procedures, condition types, access sequences, and condition records; ATP and transfer of requirements; copy control; delivery processing; billing and invoicing; material determination and product substitution; and rebates or SAP S/4HANA Condition Contract Management.
- Translate business requirements into SAP configuration, functional designs, and technical specifications.
- Evaluate requirements against standard SAP functionality and recommend solutions that minimize unnecessary customization.
- Configure and validate solutions directly rather than functioning only as an advisory or coordination resource.
Project and enhancement execution (25%)
- Lead or execute SAP SD work for enhancements, continuous improvement initiatives, implementations, rollouts, and system upgrades.
- Gather and document requirements, conduct fit-gap or fit-to-standard analysis, and develop solution designs.
- Prepare functional specifications and collaborate with ABAP developers and other technical resources when custom functionality is required.
- Create test scenarios and perform unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing; coordinate defect resolution and production readiness.
- Support cutover, go-live, hypercare, and transition-to-support activities.
Level 3 production support and problem resolution (20%)
- Serve as the Level 3 functional escalation point for the SAP application support team, providing advanced SAP SD expertise for complex, high-priority, or recurring production issues.
- Investigate escalations involving sales orders, pricing, ATP and availability checking, deliveries, billing, outputs, material determination, rebates, customer master data, EDI, and system interfaces.
- Perform detailed root-cause analysis across SAP configuration, master data, custom development, integrations, and cross-functional dependencies.
- Develop or recommend sustainable corrective solutions and coordinate resolution with Level 1 and Level 2 support resources, SAP functional teams, ABAP developers, integration teams, managed-service providers, and software vendors.
- Provide senior functional expertise during critical incidents, including business-impact assessment, workaround identification, solution validation, and clear communication.
- Identify recurring incident patterns, improve troubleshooting documentation, and provide knowledge transfer that enables support resources to resolve similar issues independently.
- Participate in after-hours Level 3 escalation support and on-call coverage for critical batch processing when required.
Integration and EDI support (10%)
- Support SAP SD integration with Finance, Materials Management, warehouse or logistics systems, customer platforms, and other internal and external applications. Understand and evaluate the downstream and upstream impact of SD design decisions across Finance, Materials Management, Planning, Warehouse Management/EWM, Transportation Management, master data, and integration platforms.
- Apply functional knowledge of common Order-to-Billing EDI transactions, including EDI 850 Purchase Order, 855 Purchase Order Acknowledgment, and 810 Invoice.
- Analyze issues involving inbound and outbound EDI documents, ECC IDOC processing, S/4HANA event-based API integration, master data, sales orders, deliveries, shipment information, and invoices.
- Work with integration and development teams to determine whether issues originate in SAP configuration, master data, mapping, middleware, or external partner systems.
Business partnership, documentation, and continuous improvement (10%)
- Review functional designs and proposed solutions from internal and external resources to help ensure they are technically sound, appropriately standardized, and consistent with the overall Order-to-Billing solution.
- Work directly with business process owners, key users, and IT colleagues to understand needs and recommend practical SAP solutions.
- Explain SAP capabilities and constraints clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual work, improve reliability, and increase use of standard SAP functionality.
- Perform functional solution and design reviews for work delivered by internal resources and consulting partners, identifying gaps, unnecessary customization, integration risks, and opportunities to use standard SAP functionality.
- Maintain process, configuration, testing, training, and support documentation.
- Follow organizational requirements for security, compliance, change management, release management, and audit support.
