How You’ll Make an Impact
The SAP Basis Manager will manage a team which provides day to day technical and/or process support for business applications that are used by Valvoline to enable business operations and serve as the SAP Basis subject matter expert, responsible for overseeing the performance, reliability, security, and overall management of SAP landscapes. This leadership role requires deep expertise in SAP system architecture and administration, covering environments such as S/4HANA, ECC, Solution Manager, BW4HANA, Rev-Trac, Cloud ALM (cALM), and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The Basis Manager collaborates with cross-functional IT teams to define standards, enforce best practices, and deliver strategic guidance for the optimal operation and integration of SAP systems across the enterprise. This role also involves close coordination with managed service providers and oversight of hosted SAP environments to ensure service levels, compliance, and operational continuity.
Responsibilities Include
1. People management of individuals across multiple geographic locations. Delegate responsibilities as appropriate. Set performance targets and monitor progress against agreed quality and performance criteria via quarterly performance reviews and regular 1:1 check ins. Provide effective feedback throughout the performance management cycle. Determine optimal staffing levels and resource mix to ensure the SAP Basis team is operating in an effective and efficient manner. Ensure resources are properly aligned by skill set, have clearly defined objectives, are provided opportunities for growth, and have necessary training to be successful. Identify areas for cross-training and multi-hatting to right-size the organization. Advise individuals on career paths and encourage pro-active development of skills and capabilities and provide mentoring to support professional development.
2. Oversee daily operations of SAP Basis support, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues in alignment with SLAs; provide guidance on escalated incidents and root cause analysis.
3. Lead the development of SAP Basis strategy and roadmap, aligning with Valvoline’s IT goals and collaborating closely with business units and technical teams to ensure future readiness.
4. Provide expert advisory services to SAP functional and technical teams, acting as the senior authority on SAP Basis technologies, infrastructure, and integration.
5. Manage relationships with third-party service providers, ensuring effective delivery of support, system maintenance, and continuous improvement for hosted and cloud-based SAP environments.
6. Direct participation in cloud application release planning and deployment, ensuring Basis readiness and coordination across IT and business stakeholders.
7. Serve as SAP Basis lead on IT projects, representing infrastructure interests and ensuring alignment with architecture standards and business objectives.
8. Govern the SAP change and transport management process, enforcing best practices for quality, risk mitigation, and compliance.
9. Lead the SAP Basis team using Agile methodologies, facilitating sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous delivery of Basis services in an iterative, value-driven approach.
10. Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration (or higher) in an IT related field or equivalent work experience.
What Will Set You Apart
• 8+ years of hands-on SAP Basis administration experience, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning across SAP platforms (e.g., ECC, S/4HANA, BW, Solution Manager, BTP).
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, guiding Basis teams and coordinating cross-functional activities with infrastructure, security, and application teams.
• Proven experience managing SAP landscapes in hybrid environments, including on-premise, cloud (e.g., SAP RISE, Azure, AWS), and hosted platforms.
• Strong background in change and transport management processes, including tools such as Cloud ALM, Rev-Trac, and adherence to ITIL practices.
• Experience leading or participating in SAP upgrades, migrations, and system refreshes.
• Demonstrated success in working with managed service providers and third-party vendors, including SLA enforcement, escalations, and performance oversight.
• Solid understanding of SAP security concepts, system monitoring, and system health management using tools like SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies, with direct experience leading Basis-related tasks within Agile frameworks (Scrum/SAFe).
• Experience coordinating disaster recovery planning and execution for SAP systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of collaborating across IT and business teams.
