How You’ll Make an Impact

Valvoline Global is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Technical Services Engineer. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this role works with R&D and formulation, Marketing, Sales, customers, and test partners to support field test sites, product development, industry approvals, OEM support, and customer application needs. The role provides technical support for lubricants, hydraulic fluids, chemicals, and coolants across consumer and industrial applications. Strong mechanical aptitude, communication skills, engineering and scientific methods, data analysis, and technical writing and presentation skills are essential; experience in tribology and lubricant formulation is preferred.

Responsibilities Include

• Work with approved laboratories and the R&D laboratory to develop and support oil analysis programs and convert used-oil data into reports and customer maintenance recommendations
• Plan, coordinate, and manage field test projects for engine oil, transmission oil, gear oil, and related lubricants to support industry approvals, marketing claims, and customer demonstration or acceptance testing.
• Investigate and resolve product application problems through root-cause analysis, including support for Quality and Supply Chain concerns when needed. 
• Oversee and report on detailed engine inspections and rebuilds.
• Research equipment design, technology changes, industry practices, and ASTM standards to provide field knowledge to Sales, R&D, and Marketing regarding product performance, customer needs, and industry trends.
• Assist Marketing with sales literature, technical presentations, and customer, distributor, and internal training seminars.
• Provide proactive technical support to Sales and customers across Industrial, Manufacturing, Trucking Fleet, Construction, Power Generation, Marine, Mining, and other applicable segments while developing strong customer relationships. 
• Complete lubricant cross-referencing and related technical analysis to support Sales opportunities.
• Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What You'll Need

• Undergraduate or advanced degree in Engineering or Science. Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.
• 10 or more years of experience in an engineering-related discipline.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with engines, vehicles, heavy equipment, or equipment maintenance in a personal or professional capacity.
• Working knowledge of engineering principles and scientific methods, with the ability to analyze data and prepare polished technical reports and presentations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work directly with customers and resolve field issues through to completion.
• Experience with statistical software and/or data acquisition is preferred.
• Prior technical sales or technical advisor experience in petroleum, lubricants, base oils, or equipment industries is preferred.
• Experience in tribology and lubricant development, mechanical development of heavy-duty equipment, or industrial and manufacturing lubricant applications is preferred.
• Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS) or Oil Monitoring Analyst certification is preferred but not required.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
• Frequent communication through virtual and in-person meetings.
• Travel Requirements: Approximately 20-50% travel may be required, primarily within the United States, with occasional travel to other countries. Most travel is by vehicle and air travel.
