Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer candidates who can work an in-office schedule (3 days per week). *This position offers relocation assistance.
The Senior Tax Manager will ensure efficient and effective global tax compliance, global tax accounting, global tax controversy management, and global tax planning. This role will lead a team of tax professionals in gathering, analyzing, and ensuring data quality and integrity. This role will regularly interact with global finance teams to ensure alignment around all tax-related matters, and interact with the Chief Accounting Officer and CFO to update and explain tax compliance, tax accounting, tax controversy, and tax planning matters. This role will report to the Head of Global Tax.
How You Will Make An Impact
Responsibilities include:
Compliance and Reporting Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee global income and indirect tax compliance processes across all regions to ensure accurate, timely, and complete filing in accordance with local requirements.
- Supervise global tax service providers and internal teams to validate data accuracy, reconcile tax balances, and ensure adherence to corporate tax policies.
- Coordinate with Regional finance teams and external advisors to review, approve, and submit corporate income tax returns, filings, and all compliance obligations.
Accounting and Provision Management
- Direct and review consolidated and regional tax accounting processes.
- Support the consolidated, quarterly, and year-end tax processes, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with reporting timelines.
- Prepare and/or review global tax reporting packages and ensure consistency across all regions.
- Communicate consolidated results and variances to leadership and stakeholders.
Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Design, implement, and maintain global tax internal controls.
- Monitor control effectiveness and lead remediation plans for identified deficiencies.
- Drive process efficiency and automation initiatives across global tax operations to enhance compliance accuracy, reduce risk, and improve cycle times.
Risk Management
- Manage global tax controversy and audit activities, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure risk mitigation.
- Provide strategic guidance on tax positions and documentation to reduce future liabilities.
- Support parent tax risk management policies and practices.
Leadership & Team Development
- Manage and develop a global tax team across the US, India, APAC, EMEA and the Americas, setting clear expectations, coaching for performance, and supporting career growth.
- Establish clear goals and provide regular feedback.
What You’ll Need
- 12+ years in a tax management role for a global enterprise with global tax management responsibilities
- Tax accounting experience (ASC 740, IFRS, etc)
- Tax internal controls management experience
- Strong proficiency with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, MS Office
- Experience working in SAP
- Strategic thinker
- Exceptional analytical skills; adept at structuring problems and developing data-driven solutions
- Executive-level communication skills, including an ability to synthesize financial information for non-finance leaders
- High integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to manage ambiguity
- Strong leadership presence with experience building high-performing teams
