Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer local candidates willing to work an in-office work schedule (3 days per week). *We are open to remote candidates, but prefer candidates located in the central or northern KY area.
How You Will Make An Impact
The Senior Paralegal provides advanced legal and operational support to the Employment Law and Litigation function within Valvoline Global Operations (VGO), partnering closely with Senior Counsel to manage a wide range of civil litigation and employment-related legal matters. This role plays a critical part in supporting employee relations, litigation, and insured claim activities across the organization.
Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior Paralegal manages complex and sensitive matters requiring discretion, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills. This role serves as a key liaison between Legal, Human Resources, Risk, Environment Health and Safety, and business leaders, ensuring efficient handling of employment law processes while supporting risk mitigation and compliance with applicable laws and company policies. This role will communicate with outside counsel and claims adjusters with specific requests or concerns and will need to present in-depth knowledge of employment law, discovery, and claims management.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Employment Law Support & Advisory Coordination
- Support Senior Counsel in providing legal guidance on a broad range of employment matters, including employee relations, policy interpretation, accommodations, performance management, and terminations
- Partner closely with HR and business leaders to gather facts, organize documentation, and ensure timely legal review of employment issues
- Draft, review, and manage employment-related documents, including separation agreements, offer letters, policy updates, and internal communications
- Assist in maintaining and updating employment policies, handbooks, and compliance materials in alignment with evolving legal requirements
- Support compliance initiatives, audits, and reporting related to employment law obligations
- Help coordinate and track training efforts related to workplace conduct, investigations, and legal compliance
- Litigation & Dispute Support
- Support employment-related litigation, claims, and agency matters (e.g., EEOC), including document collection, discovery coordination and production, and case tracking
- Liaise with outside counsel to facilitate information flow, manage documentation, and support case strategy execution
- Performing complex research and analysis
- Monitor deadlines, maintain litigation calendars, and assist in preparing materials for hearings, mediations, or settlements
- Claims Administration
- Liaise with insurance broker/provider, third party administrators, claimants, and/or policy holders regarding claims and disputes.
- Analyze, manage, and track Worker’s Compensation claims, general liability, and auto liability claims with Valvoline Global’s third-party administrator.
- Follow claims handling procedures and participate in claim negotiations and settlements.
- Legal Operations & Process Management
- Manage the Legal department’s e-billing software (Legal Tracker), including but not limited to: initiating new matter billing information, reviewing and auditing pending invoices, tracking invoices and payment schedules, tracking court-ordered payments and settlement payments, and compiling e-billing reports and summaries.
- Support process improvements to enhance efficiency, documentation standards, and cross-functional collaboration
- Maintain organized, secure, and audit-ready records in accordance with legal and company requirements
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field
- Typically 6–10 years of paralegal experience, with a strong preference for employment law or litigation support experience (including worker’s compensation, general liability, and auto liability claims)
- Experience supporting claims administration, litigation, employment disputes, or HR/legal functions
- Strong understanding of employment law processes and documentation (e.g., EEOC responses, investigation protocols, employment agreements)
- Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with HR, legal teams, and business stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with legal matter management
- Ability to travel up to 5–10%
