Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer local candidates willing to work an in-office work schedule (3 days per week). *This position offers a full relocation package for non-local qualified candidates.
How You Will Make an Impact
The Sr. Brand Manager, Motor Oils, is a critical commercial and marketing leader responsible for driving the strategy, performance, and long-term growth of Valvoline’s Motor Oil portfolio—including Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO), Heavy Duty Engine Oil (HDEO), and the Small Engine Oil businesses. Additionally, the Sr. Brand Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to win across categories in the Commercial channel for our key specialty retail customers. This role blends portfolio ownership, channel strategy, integrated marketing and communication leadership, along with high-impact customer collaboration.
The Sr. Brand Manager partners closely with Sales, Category Management, Product Strategy, R&D, Finance, external agency partners, and others to develop multi-year strategies, execute innovation, manage financial performance, and lead major customer-facing meetings. The role also manages two Associate Brand Managers and plays a key role in building marketing capability across the broader team.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Motor Oils Portfolio Leadership
- Lead the full strategy for PCMO, HDEO, and Small Engine portfolios—including vision, competitive positioning, communication, pricing strategy, and long-term portfolio evolution with the product strategy team.
- Lead the annual financial planning process for the Motor Oils portfolio in partnership with Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain, develop annual volume and revenue forecasts, promotional assumptions, and portfolio investment needs.
- Manage business performance across revenue, margin, and product mix to meet annual financial targets. Monitor performance against plan and recommend course corrections.
- Translate insights on consumers, shoppers, and competitors into actionable strategies that drive brand health and category growth.
- Retail Auto Parts (RAP) Commercial Strategy
- Serve as the commercial marketing lead for the RAP channel, aligning portfolio and channel strategies with customer and market needs.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Product Strategy, Pricing, and Category Management to lead the development of the strategy across product assortment, education, pricing, and promotion.
- Lead development of creative assets required to educate the countermen/women at our key retailers, the end commercial customer, and other key stakeholders on Valvoline’s commercial portfolio and promotions.
- Partner with Product Strategy to identify white space innovation opportunities and lead commercialization through the stage gate process.
- Communication & Media Strategy
- Lead development of annual integrated media and communication strategies across the Valvoline portfolio with internal and external agency teams—spanning awareness, consideration, and conversion tactics.
- Develop strategic briefs, guide creative development, and ensure deliverables align with brand and channel strategies across all consumer and customer touch points.
- Lead team to manage timelines, budgets, and execution across on and offline assets, content, claims, and other marketing materials to support channel investment decisions.
- Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop two Associate Brand Managers overseeing PCMO, HDEO, and the Small Engine portfolios.
- Build marketing capability across insights, portfolio management, commercial storytelling, and cross-functional leadership.
- Champion a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and growth.
- Act as a trusted advisor to RAP customers by delivering insight-driven category leadership, deepening our current partnerships.
- Lead customer presentations with strategic clarity and compelling storytelling.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 6+ years of experience in brand management or product marketing, ideally in CPG or automotive aftermarket.
- Experience leading media strategy, creative development, and agency management strongly preferred.
- Proven success in building and executing commercial strategies and delivering annual business plans.
What Will Set You Apart
- CPG or automotive aftermarket experience
- Experience presenting to and influencing major retail customers is highly preferred.
- MBA preferred.
