Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer local candidates willing to work an in-office work schedule (3 days per week).
The Senior Accountant supports accurate and timely accounting operations and financial reporting for Valvoline’s consolidated entities. This role plays a key role in monthly close activities, account reconciliations, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
As a skilled contributor within the finance organization, the Senior Accountant collaborates across functions to ensure financial data integrity and compliance. The role requires technical accounting expertise, strong analytical skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Responsibilities Include:
- Accounting Operations & Month-End Close
- Perform journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for month-end and quarter-end close processes.
- Analyze variances and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with the consolidation of global entities and preparation of financial reports.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare internal financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare quarterly and annual stand-alone financials for review and audit.
- Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit requests and implement recommendations.
- Technical Accounting
- As needed, research specific uncertain accounting issues and document Valvoline’s considerations and accounting treatment conclusion.
- Manage internal accounting policies and provide supporting documentation.
- Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain documentation and execution of key SOX/ICFR controls.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to automation initiatives.
- Support system enhancements and financial tools implementation.
- Cross-Functional Support & Collaboration
- Collaborate with commercial finance, supply chain, and other teams to ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Assist in accounting for intercompany transactions, joint ventures, and new business initiatives.
- Team Support & Knowledge Sharing
- Act as a resource for junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
- Support the Accounting Manager in special projects and ad hoc analyses.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–6 years of relevant accounting experience in corporate or public accounting
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and financial close tools (e.g., Blackline)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting platforms
- Self-motivated with a collaborative and solution-oriented approach
- Technical Accounting Proficiency with a strong foundation in accounting principles to ensure accurate and compliant reporting
