How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Direct strategy in all areas of Advanced R&D with a particular focus on tribology (friction and wear) and molecular synthesis
  • Lead advanced research and development related to products and services for Valvoline Global Operations
  • Manage, develop, and mentor global team of scientists with a focus on fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Recruit new and diverse talent globally, adhering to our humble, hungry, and smart approach.
  • Empower and motivate every team member by assigning challenging projects & assignments, promoting an atmosphere of collaboration and continuous learning
  • Follow automotive hardware development looking for opportunities to create novel molecular structures that give VGO products a clear market advantage.
  • Create marketing collateral demonstrating the capabilities of the products so that they are easily understood either via industry standard testing or by creating unique and novel test methods that clearly demonstrate performance and are something other labs could replicate
  • Manage technical relationship with Valvoline supported racing teams globally.
  • Monitor technology across other businesses looking for an opportunity to adapt new tech to VGO markets, allowing VGO to be the first to market with winning technology as it becomes financially viable
  • Run the innovation process for 5+ years out and solutions not currently available from suppliers. Present technical and business information to internal and external audiences effectively
  • Defines intellectual property opportunities and ensures these discoveries are protected via patents or held as company secret
  • Offers new solutions for business selected opportunities that go beyond current product offerings in both scope and application
  • Delivers the technology funnel including idea generation to develop an innovation pipeline for products 5+ years in the future
  • Monitors technology in non-automotive fields with an eye toward applying that technology to Valvoline’s markets
  • Manages externally supported R&D efforts including acquisition of government and other external funding
  • Directs the growth of Advanced R&D laboratories including strategy, capital expenditures, budgets, new capabilities, etc
  • Promote an environment where safety is the number one priority and colleagues feel empowered to voice safety concerns and provide solutions. Maintain a high level of ethics, safety, quality and environmental standards in all aspects of the business.
  • Ensure all activities are progressed according to global and regional standards and practices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline Global Operations from time to time in its sole discretion.

 

What You’ll Need

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years lab experience with 5-7 years’ experience in lubricants and  R&D
  • Strong technical background in engineering fundamentals including lubrication, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Passion and enthusiastic, ability to work individually and in teams

  • Lab environment, must be able to lift 25 pounds.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Certifications such as CLS (certified Lubrication Specialist) or OMA (Oil Monitoring Analyst)
