The Capital Program Manager will lead the facilitation of Global supply chain development initiatives in large capital goals and objectives. The primary focus will be inorganic growth of the supply chain network and new site development, including greenfield, brownfield, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions. This position has a global centralized focus and requires a broad-based view of supply chain functions, cross-functional business support, and an understanding of Valvoline’s global business strategies.  S/he may provide key communication links for top management to coordinate the various project activities within the supply chain.  Position will create important visibility into the critical interactions between Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Planning, Legal, Sales, EHS, Operations and other business functions.  Position will create a focus on a one process culture, whereby Commercial, Operations and Finance all agree on anticipated capabilities required of Valvoline’s Global Supply Chain and the means to achieve them.  Position will be the architect behind working cross-functionally for the realization of long-range supply chain enablement in areas of greenfield site development, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Front End Loading (FEL): Develop and lead business case development and execution of large capital projects (>$5 million). Leads the identification and solicitation of Valvoline’s internal and external resources needed to facilitate execution of projects.  Partners with leadership globally to make sure that resources are made available as required for project planning and execution. Leads task identification, coordination, development, delegation, and adherence of project work guidelines within the integrated project teams.  As well, develops and implements process and data controls that will be used to measure progress and performance against project KPIs. Coordinate resources to prepare, submit, and present project plans and requests to company Chief Officers and shareholders.
  • Team Capabilities Development: Leads and develops high-performing, talented and diverse global project management teams. Supports the solicitation, hiring, training, and onboarding of project resources.  Defines the competency model and assessment for project resources.  Creates strong relationships with internal resources and 3rd party professionals globally to assure a relationship conducive to improving the planning and execution of large capital projects.
  • Corporate Development Support: Leads engineering evaluation of prospective corporate development initiatives involving the supply chain and operations. Serves as engineering subject matter expert on prospective joint venture, merger, and acquisition activities.  Perform site visits and assessments of prospective parties as required in such opportunities. Evaluate synergies and risks of partnerships.  Prepare assessments for submittal to decision makers.
  • Organizational Capabilities Development: Works with corporate and regional resources to ensure continual success in large capital projects (>$5 million). Identify and analyze SWOTs of existing operations to support lessons learned application into subsequent projects. Identify business support resources critical to execution of capital projects. Work with corporate and regional managers to ensure resources are provided and gaps filled.
  • Measurement and continuous improvement: Develops and implements process and data controls that will be used to measure progress and performance against key project KPIs.  Will be held accountable timely execution of project Front End Loading (FEL) phases, execution, cashflow, and financial performance in accordance with determine project KPIs. 
  • Internal Contacts – Executive team, Engineering, Finance, Global Trade, Legal, Sales & Marketing, PLM, Quality, Technology, Planning, Operations, Risk, Procurement, EH&S, Information Technology, Real Estate, Human Resources (Horizontal and vertical company integration)
  • External Contacts – Engineering, Construction Management, Equipment Suppliers
  • This role will travel up to 30%

What You’ll Need

Education Required:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Chemical, Process, Mechanical).

Education Desired:

  • A master’s degree in business, engineering, and/or finance.

Experience Required:

  • 10 years' experience in heavy industrial/process work, front-end engineering, and project execution.
  • 5 years’ experience in business administrative support and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience in end-to-end supply chain
  • Experience with Project Business Case development and socialization.
  •  Proven track record of successfully working with all levels within an organization.
  • Experience working with cross-functional business internal and external teams.
  • Experience working with external resources.
  • Experience with Engineering FEED workstreams and Stage-Gate Project Management
  • Auto-CAD, SAP, MS programs (including MS Project)
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. 
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, domestic and international.

Other experience:

  • Experience in Front-End Engineering Design (FEED)
  • Experience in Phase-Gate Project Management
  • Experience in commissioning and implementation of greenfield capital projects

What will set you apart:

  • Project Management certification a plus.
  • Professional Engineer certification a plus.

The position will require the following two elements:

  1. Broad knowledge and relationships across different parts of the organization, with core basis in engineering
  2. Deep knowledge in capital construction projects: stage-gate project management, front-end engineering design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
