Job Purpose
The IT Senior Manager – Back Office Applications provides strategic and operational leadership for the development teams supporting Valvoline’s back-office application portfolio. This role leads SAP ABAP developers and associated engineering resources to design, build, and enhance solutions that enable global back-office operations with a strong emphasis on Fit-to-Standard delivery, system reliability, and code performance.
Operating at the intersection of business process execution and technical delivery, the Senior Manager ensures that back-office development aligns with enterprise architecture standards, delivers scalable and maintainable solutions, and supports disciplined change governance through SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) and ServiceNow.
How You Make an Impact
- Lead and develop a high-performing SAP ABAP, SAP BTP, and other Backoffice development teams, driving accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Champion Fit-to-Standard delivery by aligning designs to standard SAP capabilities, minimizing customizations, and ensuring solution sustainability.
- Establish and enforce SAP engineering standards, code review practices, and quality controls that reduce technical debt and improve maintainability.
- Drive system and code performance through proactive performance engineering, tuning, and remediation to prevent regression and improve throughput.
- Partner with functional leads, process owners, and delivery leaders to translate requirements into secure, scalable technical designs and well-executed solutions.
- Own development discipline within the change lifecycle by leveraging SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) and ServiceNow for change, transport, release, and audit-ready documentation.
- Collaborate with peer leaders to provide development services that integrate seamlessly into their delivery models and roadmaps, supporting a matrixed operating environment.
- Coordinate with Architecture, Security, Platform Engineering, and Run/Ops teams to ensure interoperability, NFR compliance (performance, security, resilience), and stable deployments.
- Manage vendor and system integrator contributions where applicable, ensuring engineering quality, standards compliance, and effective knowledge transfer.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive-level audiences, through clear status, risk, and performance reporting.
- Travel to corporate offices on a quarterly basis to build alignment with IT leaders, strengthen partnerships, and support key planning and execution activities.
What You Bring to the Role
- 8–12+ years of progressive experience in enterprise application development, with 3–5+ years leading SAP ABAP engineering teams.
- Deep expertise in SAP ABAP development (ECC and/or S/4HANA) including performance engineering, code quality, and scalable design patterns.
- An understanding of the BTP Cloud Development and how it augments and enhances SAP solution delivery.
- Demonstrated experience delivering Fit-to-Standard outcomes in SAP programs, balancing business needs with standard capability adoption.
- Working knowledge of SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) for requirement-to-deploy traceability, testing, defect management, and release governance.
- Strong experience using ServiceNow (or comparable ITSM) for change management, approvals, and audit-compliant change documentation.
- Proven ability to lead across a matrixed organization, partnering with peer leaders and delivery teams to achieve shared outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills; comfortable interfacing with business leaders, architecture, and delivery executives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field required; SAP certification(s) preferred.
- Ability to travel to corporate offices on a quarterly basis.
