This position will offer a hybrid work schedule and will be flexible to sit in Europe or Amsterdam with an expectation of up to 30% travel.
How You’ll Make An Impact
The Director of Formulation Technology will serve as a will have the responsibility to secure Technology Leadership and deliver the growth plan for all the driveline fluid technologies. This position also serves as the first point of contact for R&D in Europe and AMEA, covering all product lines.
The role leads and directs global technology teams and actively works to meet targets with team resources identified by PS&M, Procurement, Supply Chain, OEM and Marketing teams globally. This role proposes and supports strategies and targets for the future driveline fluids portfolio, in both commercial and racing products. This position participates in the R&D Leadership Team for planning strategic R&D activities and technologies as well as in steering global teams with Production, Marketing, Engineering and PS&M, to influence the strategic direction of the company.
In The Role, You Would Be Responsible For:
- Leads the development of Valvoline Global Operations driveline lubricants including transmission fluids, gear oils, tractor hydraulic fluids, racing oils and EV fluids.
- Manages team of highly skilled formulators, scientists, and laboratory chemists responsible for developing products from creation thru commercialization.
- Directs driveline fluid projects involving lab staff working with cross functional teams and supports business needs with longer term vision and strategy understanding the impact of technical leadership on the business profitability.
- Speaks for and technically represents Valvoline Global to OEM customers globally in regards of Driveline fluids, working with the senior leadership of OEM Sales team to apply technical knowledge facilitating growth into the Driveline products and services.
- Supports the EMEA Regional business and leadership teams on technical related projects and presents complex topics appropriately for the level of seniority and background to internal and externa customers.
- Functions as the in Region (EMEA) Technical Leader speaking for Valvoline as needed by the business.
- Provides significant contributions to bottom line via new products and/or cost saving initiatives, help grow Valvoline Global Operations EBITA >25%.
- Helps identify and focus Aramco support on specific technical approvals to increase captive base oil usage from Affiliates into the global driveline portfolio.
- Represents VGO on industry committees requiring technical, political, and business acumen (i.e. ATIEL General Assembly member)
- Ensuring conformity to the Zero Incident Culture and to comply with company procedures, environmental and safety regulations.
What You’ll Need
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of R&D leadership in lube industry.
- or Master degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of R&D experiences in lube industry.
- or Bachelor degree in chemistry, chemistry engineering or mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of R&D experiences in lube industry.
- Deep knowledge of lubricant formulation technology, lubricant testing and qualification, as well as engine and transmission design and operation (at least 8-10 years of experience in the same or similar environment and role).
- Experience formulating finished lubricants, either for an oil marketer, additive supplier or base oil manufacturer.
- Management experience is mandatory as the candidate will be asked to lead a global team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy and strong organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and software (most notably PowerPoint).
- High level of confidentiality
- Availability to travel (up to 30%)
What Will Set You Apart
- Preferred candidate would have knowledge of the lubricant oil market and have experience working with marketing or strategy teams to develop new lubricant products and develop supporting claims.
