Operator Technicians of Valvoline Global’s automotive test laboratory in Ashland, KY primarily operate on various engine tests and other automotive tests which crucial to research & development, performance validation, and certification of Valvoline Global’s various automotive products, such as light-duty as well as heavy-duty engine oil lubricants, coolants, and other automotive fluids.
How You Make an Impact
- Setting up of various test stands, install/uninstall engines and automotive systems on test stands, charge fluids (engine oil, coolant etc.), cleaning up stand process instruments, etc.
- Initiate and start various engine and automotive systems on tests
- End of test dismantling of test engines and automotive systems from the test stands
- Operate and monitor (under guidance of test engineers) various engine tests, bench tests, vehicle-level tests and other automotive system tests for automotive fluids & product performance evaluation. Take oil and coolant samples, perform oil-leveling mid test or end of tests.
- Perform periodic inspections and maintenance on various mechanical equipment and sub-systems; such as fuel systems, fork-lift, fleet vehicles, compressors, pumps, air-conditioners, humidity system, heat exchangers etc.
- Loading & unloading of freight deliveries, fuel tank-truck deliveries into underground or above-ground storage tanks
- Organize, upkeep, and clean-up of the test lab rooms, as well as around the facility.
- Handle movement and storage of oil and coolant drums, sample containers, used oil & coolant drums
- Provide assistance to other technical & operating personnel, such as electrician, engine build, engineers
- Take periodic safety trainings
- Rotating shift: Days to Evening to Midnights, 7 days On, 2 days off cycle.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Role
- Minimum of Diploma and / or certification in mechanical trade or related trade
- 15+ years of work experience in related field is preferred
- Basic ability to operate computers (Microsoft Windows), computerized systems and use Microsoft Word, and Excel, is required.
- Understanding US std. and SI/metric units of length dimension as well as for other process parameters (such as; temperature, pressure, flow, weight, volume, force, torque, velocity etc.)
- Understanding of vehicle systems, automotive operations, internal combustion engine components etc.
- Good utility knowledge of various mechanics tools
- Have good working understanding of US std. pipe dimensions, threads & thread sizes, various connection/ fittings, hoses, tubing etc.
- Must be able to stand, lift, bend, kneel, sit, climb stairs, and work in lab for extended periods of time. Should be able to work in noisy, hot, and humid indoor lab or outdoor environment. Ability to handle and/or lift minimum 50 lbs. Should be able to wear all the requisite PPEs.
