How You’ll Make an Impact

The Chief Accounting Officer "CAO" will lead the strategic direction and functional operation of Valvoline Global Operations ("VGO" or the "Company") global Accounting and Financial Reporting functions. This role will be responsible for financial reporting, internal controls over financial reporting, and the design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures globally, all while creating a culture of compliance and financial discipline across the organization. This role will be expected to obtain an understanding of the key business drivers required for the Company to meet its revenue, profitability, and cash flow targets. Working closely with the CFO, this role will help ensure that VGO is optimally positioned to make innovative decisions that optimize and balance resource allocation, growth investments and risk management. The CAO will be the primary liaison and partner within VGO for the external auditors and Aramco’s accounting and controlling groups. The CAO will also be expected to partner with other internal VGO stakeholders within finance (ie, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, IAS, Corporate Development, and Regional / Business Unit Finance) and outside of finance (Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, Legal, Marketing & Brand, among others).

In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Directing and leading VGO finance and accounting teams around the globe in the creation, development, implementation, and oversight of Company-wide accounting policies and controls consistent with IFRS and ICFR requirements
  • Planning and directing the monthly, quarterly, and annual external and internal financial close and reporting processes, ensuring that an "effective system" is in place to consolidate financial submissions from regional business units and subsidiaries across the globe within published "close" deadlines
  • Managing the regional and corporate/global accounting functions for VGO, ensuring a proactive process is defined while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial reporting
  • Leading the efforts to educate VGO personnel on company accounting policies and procedures appropriately. Communicate applicable changes in accounting rules and regulations to VGO’s executive leadership team and articulate related financial and/or operational impacts. Ensure seamless communication, implementation, and compliance across VGO’s accounting and finance functions of any relevant accounting changes.
  • Assisting in the ongoing transformation of VGO’s accounting system (from SAP ECC to SAP S4/Hanna) which will streamline accounting systems and drive related efficiencies throughout the company. Monitoring the effectiveness of information management and internal controls systems while continually seeking to improve standards
  • Overseeing the Company’s ICFR compliance process including financial statement risk assessment, identification of key controls, and testing strategy
  • Serve as the principal liaison with the Company’s external auditors and internal audit function to ensure smooth annual and quarterly financial statement and ICFR compliance audits

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience in leadership roles with public accounting firm(s) and/or global manufacturing companies
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate or the equivalent

  • Successful experience supporting the long-term view of a global company's business and vision through adherence to sound accounting policies

  • A demonstrated and sound knowledge of financial activities, policies, and processes, including consolidations, IFRS reporting, and ICFR compliance

  • A strong history of focus on disciplined legal entity accounting, including the ability to consistently, correctly, and timely account for intercompany transactions

  • Strong business management acumen and the ability to solve complex accounting issues that have operational impacts

  • Experience with acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, and managing accounting and control processes with partners

  • Keen ability to communicate and implement the strategic financial and accounting vision while effectively anticipating, driving, and managing through change

  • Successful leadership of a high performing, results-focused accounting and finance team

  • Comfort in communication with and presenting to Audit Committees and being the primary liaison with external auditors

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining strong relationships and trust with finance functional leaders, non-finance functional leaders, and regional / business unit leaders

  • Possess strong mentoring skills to effectively delegate and develop teammates in the accounting and finance department

  • Ability to utilize a direct and proactive approach when dealing with difficult issues or uncertainties

  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines

  • Ability to travel globally as required

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
